Child Protective Investigative Team

The Blount County Child Protective Investigative Team (CPIT) is composed of representatives from the following agencies:

  • District Attorney General’s Office, 5th Judicial District
  • Blount County Department of Children’s Services
  • Blount County Juvenile Court
  • Law enforcement, including Alcoa Police Department, Blount County Sheriff’s Office, and Maryville Police Department
  • New Hope Children’s Advocacy Center

CPIT is established by state statute, with one team designated per county. The team convenes in response to allegations of severe physical and/or sexual abuse. Its primary objectives are to protect the child, gather critical information, and ensure appropriate support services are provided when needed.

The team meets monthly to review cases. During these meetings, the detective and the assigned Child Protective Services worker present findings from their investigations. Additional input may be provided by other professionals involved in the case, such as forensic interviewers, medical providers, or therapists. Based on the information presented, the team determines whether the findings support the allegation and may recommend further action as appropriate.
